Today I want to talk to you guys about taking your hands off the steering wheel and letting life guide you! That’s how my new Chicago studio and various programs got started. One of our new programs is the 200 YTT Yoga Alliance, Yoga Teacher training program.  I am so excited to introduce you to my guest, Michelle Rae Sobi, who has been after me for yours to start offering Yoga Teacher Training and I finally let go and gave in!  But, I am so glad. We are now offering training in Chicago and Shorewood, and it is going to help change so many people’s lives.

Why offer teacher training? The benefits go far beyond anything physical you can image. I have noticed people begin to reflect more deeply on a physical and spiritual level as to who they really are. They thought they were learning about yoga poses, but they actually came to learn about themselves.

2_largeOpening up the Yoga studio was my front. People think they are coming in for poses, but we all know it is so much more. I actually met Michelle over 15 years ago when she came through my doors for a yoga class. If you have an inkling, trust your intuition, you never know who you are going to meet, who you might even end up collaborating together. We both now own our own Yoga studios and bounce ideas off each other all the time.

A big part of yoga is the people you meet. The mental clarity, the physical well-being are amazing: But the relationships and the different viewpoints are incredible. Sometimes people are afraid to share their knowledge because they think people will take it from them. But we have to start learning as empowered people, not to come from a place of fear, but of trust. So what are some hints for other people out there thinking of starting up their own business but aren’t quite sure how?

For starters, ask for help; don’t be afraid to reach out to people you trust to give your self another perspective. When Michelle opened up her studio she sent me some info and asked “what do you think of this?” When I opened up my new centre she gave me some suggestions too. We support each other yet are completely independent.

So, what are some key components to starting your own business; especially for women? Make sure the agreements you make are in writing, especially if you have friendships. This helps with accountability. Make sure to be aware of the little stuff right from the beginning, sometimes women tend to over look things that later may end up causing more issues than necessary.

Next, have a very good accountant, it is worth the money, whatever you do, have a good accountant! Women need to learn how to support each other more as well. Find a good support system and grow from that foundation. When you are supported you can make better choices and expand your reach to others.  I surround myself with people who support the empowerment process not discourage it. This just doesn’t apply to women, this applies to everyone. We can all learn from each other and it is an honor to be able to share what I have learned with you.

There is nothing you can not do. Take your hands off the steering wheel. Check out our Essence Of Life Website where you can find out more about our Yoga Teacher Training Program.

Keep sending in your comments, I love them!

Namaste,
